Ngoni Warriors, Malawi, [s.d.]
Photograph of a group of Ngoni warriors dressed in tribal dress. There are five men to the front of the picture and other visible behind, all are carrying shields and spears and wearing head dresses. The Ngoni people are an ethnic group living in Malawi, Mozambique, Tanzania and Zambia, in east-central Africa.; This belongs to a series of Church of Scotland Foreign Missions Committee lantern slides relating to Dr Robert Laws (1851-1934) the Scottish Missionary. In 1875, inspired by David Livingstone (1813-1873), Laws travelled to Malawi and was involved in the foundation of the mission station of Livingstonia on the shores of Lake Nyasa. During the succeeding 50 years he also established a network of hundreds of schools. In 1908 Laws was elected moderator of the General Assembly of the United Free Church of Scotland.
