Description

A nice simple pose that's almost a female answer to Leighton's "Sluggard".

Executed in marble, this statue was displayed for some time at the Jardin des Tuileries in Paris. See <a href="http://bibliotheque-numerique.inha.fr/collection/2347-paris-tuileries-le-reveil-par-mayer/" rel="nofollow">here</a> for a contemporary photo. (Note: although the above is one of those zoomable images, it can be downloaded at full size - it just takes a little ingenuity to find the link.)

Now the bad news. At some point it got smashed. What's left of it is held by the Musée d'Orsay. There's a photo of its sad remains on the Orsay website, but I can't bring myself to share the address.
