Athanasius Benoe (pl), patriot and politician, was born in 1827 and died in 1894, in Vienna. He was the owner of a a large estate that included the village of Niegowić and the Manor House, later owned by squire Włodek. His father Konstanty Jan Nepomuk Benoe (Taczała coat of arms (pl)), married baroness Justyna Borowska (Jastrzębiec coat of arms pl)), and took part in the November Uprising. Athanasius 'participated' in the Kraków Uprising (time of Battle of Gdów) and after entering the National Parliament for Western Galicia in 1861 joined the January Uprising in February 1863. In August 1863 he was arrested and transported to prison in Lviv in June 1864 but with no evidence to condemn him he was released. In 1865 Ludwig Wodzickiego was elected to the Parlaiment in his place but he returned to political life in 1882, when he was elected to the Austro-Hungarian parliament in Vienna as a representative of Bochenska. Athanasius was first elected Vice President of the ‘Polish Circle’ and then President, which position he retained until his death at the age of 67. He was the last of the Benoe family.
