Plate distribution along North America 55 million years ago.
The factual accuracy of this map or the file name is disputed.
Reason: This paleotectonic map shows the plate tectonic configuration 55 Ma ago but also shows the outline/silhouette of the present North American continent (e.g. Baja California only exists for about 5-10 Ma). Also, the map suggests that the western coast line of North America is identical to the subduction front of the continent, which, of course, it is not!
