| Description |
English: c/n 243-120. Built in 1957 for the United States Air Force with the full serial 56-3844 and flew with the Thunderbirds team between 1964 and 1968. She was sold to the Royal Danish Air Force in 1974 where she served as a TF-100F with the serial GT-844. In 1982 she was sold to Flight Systems Inc at Mojave and was initially registered as N3251X before becoming N415FS in 1983. Operated by Tracor Flight Systems from 1983 to 1997, she was based at Bournemouth in the UK, but flew on military contracts throughout Europe. Sold to Grecoair Inc in El Paso, Texas, in 1997 and reregistered as N26AZ, she was then repainted in New Mexico Air Guard colours with her correct serial ‘63844’. She joined the Collins Foundation in February 2011 and was immediately repainted in camouflage with the false identity ’63-951’ She now represents 56-3951 of the 309th Tactical Fighter Squadron, part of the 31st Tactical Fighter Wing during the Vietnam War. It was the aircraft in which Colonel George “Bud” Day was shot down on 26th August 1967. He became a prisoner of war in North Vietnam and was later awarded the Medal of Honor for Valor while a prisoner in Hanoi. He flew in this aircraft during 2011, but has sadly since passed on.
