Description
English: Thunderstorms during the North American Monsoon as seen from El Cajon, California. This is a common sight from southern California during the monsoon season. The monsoon pushes up against the Peninsular Range but only rarely manages to push over the mountains to the coastal strip. During the monsoon season southern Californians have a spectacular view of the thunderstorms only a half-hour's drive away. The storms reach the coastal strip only about once a season.

This photograph was created from 4 images stitched together with The Panorama Factory v.4. The image was cropped and reduced to 800 pixels vertically for convenient viewing.

Note: This is a replacement for Image for North American Monsoon 20060701.jpg, which was shown in the North American Monsoon section of the Monsoon article. I noted that I wanted to take a better picture. It took over two years but here it is. I took several panoramas of the monsoon on August 8, 2008. I think this is the best one and I doubt I will ever get a better shot.
