Summary edit

Description At the head of the canal by the upper dam. the builder's plate identifies it as being manufactured by Dominion Bridge in 1910. I have since learned that this is a mechanical cofferdam, one of the few still operable in the Trent-Severn Waterway. It is used to block the entrance to the canal in order to protect it in times of extreme weather.
