Description Nottingham Castle Gatehouse. The gatehouse was the only external gate into the medieval castle. The gatehouse was built between 1251 and 1255 and stood two storeys high with a thick timber door, a portcullis and a drawbridge.The moat over which the drawbridge spanned has now been filled in to form the entrance. Altered mid 16th century and restored and gateway added in 1908
