I wandered into the courtyard of H.H. Richardson's majestic Allegheny County Courthouse on a frigid day a few weeks ago to find a huge Steelers pep rally in progress. No, I did not take the free hot dog proffered. I always root for the team which has better urban fabric enveloping its stadium, and cannot imagine that Phoenix will ever (even if it lasts a thousand years before it inevitably dries up and blows away, just the same as every other attempt at settling that cursed valley) be blessed with so dignified an urban public space. So, in spite of my profound antipathy towards American football: go Steelers! |
