Summary edit

Description
English: Detail of the dinner plate of the Obama china service on April 27, 2015.

Each setting of the new china contains 11 pieces, and there are 320 settings. Most of the pieces have an edge of textured gold, a band of color named "Kailua blue" (inspired by the color of the sea off President Obama's home state of Hawaii), and a narrow inner band of gold. Pickard China of Illinois manufactured the porcelain.

The dinner plate is different from the rest of the service. It features gold gilt on the edge of the plate. In uncolored bas-relief on the rim of the plate is a decoration of pinwheels and fronds. This decoration was inspired by a dinner plate owned by Secretary of State James Madison, purchased in 1806.
