Summary edit

Description
English: Established by De Beers Consolidated Mines at the turn of the 20th Century, the De Beers explosive works was established primarily to supply dynamite to the Diamond fields of Kimberly and to break the monopoly of the Modderdam Factory in Johannesburg. The site is notable for the unique collection of buildings designed by Baker and Masey and has been recognized by the Built Environment and Landscape Committee of Heritage Western Cape as being worthy of declaration as a provincial heritage site. Indeed one of the buildings on the site already has provincial heritage status: Quinan House, ref number 9/2/083/0037/001.
