| Description |
English: Old An Óige Youth Hostel at Carrick, Co Donegal The Red House was the building on the right of this 2006 photo, constructed of red Italian brick imported through Teelin harbour. It was operating as a guest house when a youth hostel was opened in the plain barn-like building adjacent in 1959. The hostel ran for almost 30 years until 1988, offering simple accommodation to cyclists and walkers, and maintained largely by volunteers. The warden was Miss Cunningham, a lady of very great years and respect. Please contact if you have any tales to tell of old hostels like this. |
