Summary edit
DescriptionOld Hall, Knedlington.jpg |
English: Old Hall, Knedlington, East Riding of Yorkshire, England. The house was recorded in 19th century topographical dictionaries as the property of 'Sir John Gate, a distinguished knight in the reign of Henry VIII' but this is probably incorrect. It seems more likely this Elizabethan style manor house was the home of John GATES (1540-1607), a Justice of the Peace for Howdenshire who was active in the arrest and subsequent execution of people suspected of practising the Catholic faith during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I. |
