  • 1986 Charles E. Peterson Prize, Third Place
  • Significance: The Old Monroe County Jail in Clarendon, Arkansas, is the oldest standing county building in Monroe County. The building was constructed in 1891-1892 by the Pauly Jail Building & Maufacturing Co. of St. Louis, Missouri. Plans and specification were furnished by Mr. M.H. Baldwin. In addition to the primary function as a county jail, it served the counties of Lee, St. Francis, and Woodruff as the central place of executions for the First Judicial Circuit Court.
