View of New York from Brooklyn Heights in 1848. Early Steamboat days. The steamers C. Vanderbilt and Bay State in the foreground belonged to the Vanderbilt line between New York and Boston via Stonington. Note the many sailing vessels lying along the docks of South street which have now disappeared.
