Title
Old Norton Summit Road, near the former Rock Tavern
Description

1. Showing horse and carriage - Microfiche incorrectly captioned "Violet Flower Farm" (although there was a property called Walkers Violet Farm near Norton Summit) - Index 1312A says: Norton Summit Road, near Rock Tavern. (G Brooks) - Caption changed to reflect G Brooks' notes

2.The two-storeyed building is the former Rock Tavern. Isaac Gepp was the first licensee (March 1857). He opened for business in a long stone building tucked into the side of the hill, hence its name. The tavern was rebuilt in 1882 in the style shown in the photograph. It ceased trading when the new Norton Summit Road opened in 1889.
