English: Old Stone House On the corner of High Street and Barrack Square. The house is reasonably new however the cellar entrance which can be viewed in the picture is medieval. There are 33 known cellars dating back to the origin of the new town of Winchelsea and another 18 believed to be in existence. They were built to house wine from the lucrative trade with Gascony and many are vaulted. |
