Summary edit
DescriptionOlympic Bridge 올림픽대교.jpg |
This is a relatively newer vehicular bridge across the Han River, located in the eastern part of the city. The Han River, about a mile wide, divides Seoul across its entire east-west width. The development of the southern banks from the 1960s on meant that there was a huge need to construct a few dozen new bridges. Most of them were thrown up rather hastily and have very utilitarian architecture, and some were built so shoddily that one collapsed and one had to be rebuilt. The Olympic Bridge is mercifully an exception, with its distinctive architecture. However, an Army helicopter hired for the installation of one architectural element crashed at the construction site, killing all soldiers on board. |

Licensing edit
- Object
The depicted structure situated in or visible from public space (e.g. a building, a bridge, an overpass) in South Korea is ineligible for copyright as it is a simple or ordinary work with no architect's artistic properties that would have made it a copyrighted structure. It may also be a work of an engineer (like an infrastructure), not of an architect. In a few countries like North Korea, architecture is not among their copyrightable works, and in a few countries like South Korea and the United States of America, bridges are not among their copyrightable works.
