Het monument in de Erasmus Universiteit in Rotterdam is een bas-reliëf opgebouwd uit vier delen. Op de steen komen drie figuren voor: een afgeknotte boom, een vrouw en een ontspruitende boom.

Tekst De tekst op de gedenksteen luidt:

'1940-1945 VIVORUM RECORDATIO MORTUORUM VITA'.*

  • vrij vertaald: ‘het leven der gestorvenen zij een aansporende herinnering voor de levenden’

Symboliek De drie symbolische figuren spectievelijk de dood (afgeknotte boom), de vrede (de vrouw) en het leven voorstellen (ontspruitende boom).

Wijziging Het monument is in 1948 aangebracht in de hal van het gebouw van de Nederlandse Economische Hogeschool (NEH) aan de Pieter de Hooghweg in Rotterdam-West. De steen verhuist in 1968 mee naar het nieuwe complex van de NEH aan de Burgemeester Oudlaan in de Rotterdamse wijk Kralingen. Door samengaan van de NEH met de Medische Faculteit Rotterdam luidt de naam sinds 1973 Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam.

Locatie

Het monument bevindt zich in een van de nissen in de hal van het C-gebouw op campus Woudestein aan de Burgemeester Oudlaan 50 in Rotterdam.
