Summary

edit
Description Working in the open can be dangerous. While MIT has a long history of supporting open initiatives there was a dark chapter with Aaron Swartz. We need to recognize that libraries are not neutral and balance privacy and security. Informed consent and lifting up marginalized voices is essential, allowing control of one's own data. Need to ensure we are not reinscribing inequities, recognizing the power and privilege embedded in our knowledge. #MITGrandChallenges are four-fold: incentives matter, infrastructure and collaboration, multiple forms of knowledge and decolonize knowledge. This will be difficult and we need to do this WITH not FOR the voices that need to be heard. There were also an abundance of great reading lists, as any good feral librarian would provide, and Chris has promised she'll send those on to me so I can share them also. They probably are also on the #ccsummit hashtag which is a trove of incredible dialog and resources.
