Description
日本語: 臺灣芝居。臺灣では祝祭日や慶弔日には必ず芝居をするとになつてゐる。舞臺は寺廟の前とか又は空地なだ野天に臨時天幕を張つて設けるのであつて極めて簡單なものである。而して誰でも無料で觀覽することが出來る。舞臺には背景なく，僅に一脚の卓子と二三脚の椅子とがあるのみである。役者の他に囃方も舞臺に出で，胡弓、月琴、琵琶、鑼、笛、鐃（ギヤウ）などの樂器を用ひ，役者の唱歌や立迴りの際にす。其の喧騒なることは殆ど耳を聾せんばかりである。芝居は大抵三國志、水滸傳、西遊記などの類を演ずるのであるが，仕草の幼稚なるこど亦言ふ迄もない。圖は臺南郊外所見。鄙びた小屋がけは懷しい。街中などで演る場合もつときらびやかな飾立がある。（神田喜一郎，臺北帝國大學文政學部助教授）
