Description

Orgue avec positif dorsal de John Gray, Angleterre, vers 1820.

Le Musée des instruments de musique (Berlin) est installé depuis 1984 dans des bâtiments en communication directe avec ceux de la Philharmonie de Berlin .

Les architectes du bâtiment du musée sont : Hans Scharoun et Edgar Wisniewski.

L'histoire du musée commence avec la création en 1888 par l'Etat prussien de "la collection des instruments de musique anciens".

Parmi les directeurs qui se sont succédés à la tête des institutions antérieures au musée actuel, Curt Sachs est considéré comme un des plus importants avec la publication du premier catalogue raisonné de la collection (3200 pièces).

Après guerre, c'est Alfred Brener qui a réussi à réunir le fonds complètement décimé durant les hostilités.

Aujourd'hui, au sein du nouveau musée, toutes les collections ont été regroupées. Un salle de concert de 200 places est intégrée aux salles d'exposition.
