Español: ORION. El Gigante de Orión o el Cazador.
Constelación del Hemisferio: NORTE-SUR (Ecuatorial). Nombres de las Estrellas: Alfa, BETELGEUZE - Del árabe: Ibt al-Jauza, "el sobaco de la oveja con faja blanca". En época más moderna "al-Jauza" (el cazador) se convirtió en sinónimo del griego "Orión" (G.A.Davis, Jr.). Estrella rojiza variable, período 2070 días, con fluctuaciones de 140 a 300 días. Beta, RIGEL - Del árabe: Rijil al-Jauza al-Yusra, "la pierna izquierda de Orión". Estrella de color blanco-azulado, tiene una compañera a unos 10" de separación. Gamma, BELLATRIX - Del latín: "la mujer guerrera". Estrella de color blanco-azulado. Delta, MINTAKA - Del árabe: Mintakat al-Jauza, "el cinto de Orión". Estrella variable tipo algol, de color blanco, período 5,73 dias. Epsilon, ALNILAM - Del árabe: an-Nizam, "la sarta de perlas". Estrella blanca azulada. Zeta, ALNITAK - Del árabe: an-Nitaq, "el cinto". Estrella blanca azulada, tiene dos compañeras a unos 2.6" y 58" de seperación. Eta, SAIF AL JABBAR - Del árabe: la espada del gigante. Iota, NAIR AL SAIF - Del árabe: la brillante de la espada. Kappa, SAIPH - Del árabe: Saif al-Jabbar, "la espada del poderoso (el gigante Orión)". Estrella blanca. Lambda, MEISSA - Del árabe: al-Maisan, "la resplandeciente". Estrella azulada, tiene una compañera a 4.4". Nu, SHWUY FOO - Del chino: depósito de agua. Tau, YUH TSING - Del chino: el pozo de oro. Upsilon, THABIT - Del árabe: el paciente, por resistir. |
