d quietly, * O Lord, help me, and show me what to do. Instantlythe conviction came to me as to Gods will, and I immediately walkedtoward the crowd, and said, * The Lord will not let this horse die; for Hehears my prayers. Then I mounted the trembling horse and rode awayat a trot, with the people staring after me in astonishment, and theguides meekly following to the end of the stage. The horse was healed,and the men returned to their homes; while I continued my journey,praising the Lord for His loving care. Did you ever hear any later report as to what the villagersthought of the incident of the bitten horse ? the writer askedthe missionary. Yes, he replied. I returned to the coastby another route, and so heard nothing on that trip. But threeyears afterward two or three men from that region called onme at the Singapore Mission house. They said that their peoplehad never forgotten the horse-and-snake incident, believingthat surely an alim, or ^ man of God, had passed through theirland.

And still those who go down to the sea in ships find ofa truth that the Lords way is in the sea, and His path in thegreat waters. The stories of the sea that follow are mostlyfrom missionary annals; and be it remembered that the sea isthe great highway of the modern missionary enterprise.
