ells experience Mr. Pike further narrates: It is related of Leonard Fell, that as he was traveling alone, he wasonce accosted by a highwayman who demanded his money, which hegave him. He next requested his horse also, when Leonard Fell dis-mounted and let him take it. But before the robber rode away, hesolemnly warned him against the evil course he was pursuing. The highwayman became enraged; asked him why he preached tohim, and threatened ^ to blow out his brains. But Leonard Fell replied, Though I would not give my life for my money or my horse, I wouldgive it to save thy soul — an answer which so went to the heart of therobber that he declared if he were such a man as that, he would haveneither his money nor his horse; both of which he returned, and wenthis way. Such deliverances have not come as a result of a calculatingpolicy of conduct, but as accompaniments of the life of trust,which never asks how the deliverance is to come, or evenwhether there will be temporal deliverance.
