| Description |
English: Outer Hope. The big rock is the Shippen that divides Outer Hope from Inner Hope. The Shippen was where one of the Armada ships - the hospital boat - was finally wrecked after having circumnavigated Britain. The San Pedro Mayor (29 guns) with a crew of 28 mariners and also 113 Soldiers on board, was run aground in Hope Cove, Devon, on 7 November 1588. One of two hospital ships, the ship was a hulk (cargo). The crew walked to safety from the ship; Sir William Courtney looked after the 140 men. |
