hould fol-low the withdrawal of your paddle fromthe water. It is far better and easierto push the spare canoe than it is topull it. Taking advantage of the seats andthwarts, lash the extra canoe at one sideand partly ahead of your canoe with thestern of the empty boat at the bulgeof yours and the bow of your craft atthe bulge of the extra. A pole or pad-dle lashed across both canoes should steady the whole. All lashings shouldbe drawn so tight and so well securedthat there is not the least play betweenthe boats. The more nearly parallel thekeels of the two canoes the better thewhole raft.will handle. It is advisable to attach the extra canoeat the side on which you most gener-ally paddle where its drag in the waterwill nearly if not quite counteract thetendency of your canoe to turn and thusrelieve your wrist of much labor whenholding a straight course. A little ex-perimenting to secure a firm and correctadjustment will result in two canoespaddling and steering almost as easilyas one.
