Summary edit

Description

"The Sultan Shems-ul-Haq-wa-ud-din Altamesh (شمس الدین التتمش) erected this building" reads the inscription on the slab over the door of the first balcony.

The Qutub Minar in South Delhi - This is the tallest brick minaret in the world. The diameter of the base is an astounding 48ft. (14.6 meters) and the tower stands 238 ft. (72 meters) tall. It was built in stages, the first section constructed in the 12th century A.D.

According to two inscriptions in the stone, the minar was injured by a lighting strike in 1364 and repaired by Sultan Firoze Shah, and again in 1503, repaired by Sultan Sikandar Lodhi. Whoever says lighting never strikes the same place twice hasn't waited long enough.
