Summary edit

Description
English: Oxford Canal north of Braunston, Northamptonshire Approaching the Northamptonshire - Warwickshire boundary. The Oxford Canal was one of the earliest, and for a long time one of the most important canals in the south midlands.James Brindley started the construction soon after authorisation in 1769, but after he died in 1772 Samuel Simcock eventually completed the winding 91 mile course from Hawkesbury Junction (with the Coventry Canal) and Oxford in 1790. Huge re-routing in the late 1820s cut 14 miles off the original 36 mile course between Braunston and Hawkesbury.
