Sheehey, Head of the Department of Religion at Catholic University, was sworn in as a Rear Admiral in the Chaplain’s Corps, U.S. Naval Reserve, by Rear Admiral Ira Nunn. Attending the Pentagon ceremony were Mrs. Ellen Sheehey, mother of the Monsignor, Fleet Admiral William D. Leahy and other dignitaries.
