English: Redmayne Bridge across Linton Beck by the ford at Linton, North Yorkshire. This bridge dates from the 14th century, the parapet being added in the 17th century by the bequest of a local lady, Dame Elizabeth Redmayne. Before then, packhorse bridges usually had very low parapets to avoid obstructing packhorses' loaded panniers. |
