English: Paddling the Swale above Marske bridge It's always nice to get sunshine after enough overnight rain to bring the rivers up to a decent level. With the Grinton bridge gauge at 2'9", we had only taken an hour and twenty minutes, despite a few odd incidents, to get to this point, which is about halfway on the trip from Grinton to Richmond. This is at the upper end of an ideal level for trips with beginners - much higher and any swims can get longer than you'd like. Early winter is also good because temperatures are still at a pleasant level. Fast and exciting trips are to be had with snowmelt later in the season, but those conditions are less suited to either beginners or younger paddlers. |
