Paediatric massage (tuina) chart for palm and inner forearm |
||
Description |
Woodcut illustration from a volume dated 1817 (22nd year of the Jiaqing reign period of the Qing dynasty). This image illustrates with great clarity two massage (tuina, 'push and pull') techniques for treating infantile convulsions (jingfeng, wind fright), i.e. 'Fishing the Moon out of the Water' (shuidi lao yue) and 'Pulling the Milky Way over the Water' (yin shuishang tianhe). In the former method, cold water is massaged and blown around the palm in a clockwise direction, centred on thelaogong(Palace of Toil) point. In the latter method, cold water is blown and patted from the region of the main tendon (zongjing) so that it spills on the ground. Wellcome Images |
