Description
English: View of original photographer based upon inscription on the margin of the painting: Painting of a Sikh guru inscribed with the following description, 'A Sikh who came with offerings to get the Darshan (blessed vision) of Guru Arjan Dev at Dera [encampment] Kartarpur' [the Kartarpur located in present-day Jalandhar district], circa 17th century.

Guru Arjan Dev holding a Darbar at Kartarpur, circa 17th-18th century (possibly contemporary).

"It doesn’t exactly look like guru hargobind, the nose and the broad chest and large size is what the depictions show as guru hargobind. All the paintings also show guru hargobind quite large compared to every other person shown. This painting shows a figure who has a completely different body size, nose and beard. At the end of the day, the painting could have been made during guru hargobinds time to depict his father… also guru hargobind never wore earrings and is never seen in paintings wearing them, he enjoyed doing grappling and wrestling so he didn’t wear them"

"It says under the painting it’s Guru Arjan holding a diwan at Kartarpur. It doesn’t say anything about Guru Hargobind."

Uploader's personal view: Painting of Guru Hargobind holding a darbar (court) at Kartarpur whilst Har Rai (successor, future Guru) offers a tray of fruits and an unidentified relative (likely Ani Rai based on facial similarities, especially the eyes, with another painting which depicts Ani Rai found here) waves a fly-whisk, circa 17th century. This has also been identified as being a depiction of Guru Arjan (seated) and Guru Hargobind (left) but that is unlikely as no contemporary paintings of the fifth Guru are known to exist as of yet and the physical features of the persons depicted match up with how Guru Hargobind and Guru Har Rai are depicted in other contemporary or near-contemporary paintings they commissioned (especially the former's turban style, imposing physical size, and clothing and the latter's unique beard pattern and slim-build). The inscription along the bottom margin of the painting says it's Guru Arjan being depicted but many inscriptions are inscribed after the production of works and this particular inscription seems to have been written along possibly a newer, and maybe later section of the margin. This, it may not be a contemporary inscription dating to the time this painting was created but rather it's very likely from another time period after that. The inscription can be viewed at: [1]

My suggested title for the file: "Painting of Guru Hargobind holding a darbar (court) at Kartarpur whilst Har Rai (successor, future Guru) offers a tray of fruits and an unidentified relative waves a fly-whisk, circa 17th century"

As per: [2], the painting was held in a private collection of a Patna-based family but its current whereabouts are unknown.
Date circa 17th century

This is a faithful photographic reproduction of a two-dimensional, public domain work of art. The work of art itself is in the public domain for the following reason:
Public domain

This work is in the public domain in its country of origin and other countries and areas where the copyright term is the author's life plus 70 years or fewer.

You must also include a United States public domain tag to indicate why this work is in the public domain in the United States. Note that a few countries have copyright terms longer than 70 years: Mexico has 100 years, Jamaica has 95 years, Colombia has 80 years, and Guatemala and Samoa have 75 years. This image may not be in the public domain in these countries, which moreover do not implement the rule of the shorter term. Honduras has a general copyright term of 75 years, but it does implement the rule of the shorter term. Copyright may extend on works created by French who died for France in World War II (more information), Russians who served in the Eastern Front of World War II (known as the Great Patriotic War in Russia) and posthumously rehabilitated victims of Soviet repressions (more information).

The official position taken by the Wikimedia Foundation is that "faithful reproductions of two-dimensional public domain works of art are public domain".
This photographic reproduction is therefore also considered to be in the public domain in the United States. In other jurisdictions, re-use of this content may be restricted; see Reuse of PD-Art photographs for details.
