Pangantan Jaran Culture

Summary edit

Description
English: Pangantan jaran is a popular term commonly referred to by Madurese people. Pangantan jaran means bride or bridegroom riding a horse. Even though not all areas in Madura currently carry out this unique tradition, this tradition is still carried out by some people in Sumenep, especially residents of Legung Village, one of the villages nicknamed Kampung Pasir which is located in Batang-batang District. This tradition is part of a series of wedding receptions and is one of Madura's cultural treasures that is still preserved, especially in the south-eastern part of Songenep. Behind the sacred ritual of marriage, people think that a wedding event is invalid if the series of events are not as lively as they want. For example, the celebration is enlivened by musical entertainment or processions such as horse-drawn food. However, on the other hand, sometimes this is just because of their pride in holding the celebration.
