English: The Rock Fort at Tiruchirappalli is an important Monument in India to be celebrated for its exquisite sculptures and the significant role it had played in shaping the destiny of Modern India. The Panoramic view from the Historic Rock Fort is scenic and one can view the whole city and the river Cauvery in the background. The Rock fort of Tiruchirappalli had witnessed many battles fought in southern India signifying the struggle for power by many dynasties such as the Pallavas, the Cholas, the Pandyas, the Nayaks and the British in different centuries. The rock fort is adorned by the Thayumana samy temple and Ucchi Pillaiyar temple atop the Rock. Even the tower of Sri Renganatha swamy temple visble from the 'Ucchi Pillaiyar' temple built at the top of the famous Rock fort. |

The Rock fort Hillock one of the oldest in the world, is said to be 2300 million years old much older than the himalayas. Inscriptions dating back to the 3rd century B.C is found in the temple at the summit of 83 m high rock.There are two Pallava cave temples that have beautiful sculptures of the 6th and 7th centuries.
