Description

The Glen Dean Formation is an Upper Mississippian shale and limestone unit in Kentucky. Fossils are abundant and include bryozoans (including fenestrates - sheet fragments and Archimedes corkscrews), pelmatozoan stems (many are encrusted with bryozoans), crinoid heads (including the stemless crinoid Agassizocrinus), blastoid heads (Pentremites pyriformis), articulate brachiopods, encrusting inarticulate brachiopods, solitary rugose corals, straight-shelled nautiloid cephalopods, and encrusting spirorbid worm tubes (having tubercles or spine bases).

Locality: Leitchfield Outcrop - roadcut along the northern side of Route 62, on the northeastern side of the Route 62-Route 3155 intersection, eastern side of the town of Leitchfield, central Grayson County, west-central Kentucky, USA. (37° 29’ 18.48” North latitude, 86° 15’ 48.73” West longitude)
