Summary edit

Description
English: Patterned ground with Neolithic cairn in background The upland plateau of Mynydd Pen Cyrn is scattered with gritstone boulders that form patterned ground. This photo looks towards a neolithic cairn built out of the boulders but the patterned ground of stone polygons can be clearly seen. The polygons are relics of the end of the last glacial period and were formed under periglacial ('arctic') conditions by cycles of intense freeze/thaw on the ground.
