Μια από τις πιο γνωστές αρχαίες οδούς πρόσβασης στην Αρκαδία, είναι η περίφημη "Κλίμαξ", αμαξήλατη οδός που συνέδεε τη Μαντίνεια και Τεγέα με την Αργολίδα. English: The path of the „Klimakos“ (Greek for “ladder”) is one of the most famous ancient access roads in Arcadia, a cross-country road that connected the ancient cities Mantineia and Tegea (today part of modern city Tripoli, Greece) with Athens and the Argolida. From Argos the road climbed up the slopes of Mount Artemisio. At its ridge there is the ancient passageway “Portitsa” ("δίοδο της Πορτίτσας"), a passage, deeply carved into the rocky ridge. Pausanias (110-180 AD) describes the descent “Ladder” in his famous “Description of Greece”: The “descent had steps that were once cut into it” (Book 8, chapter 6, section 4). The “Ladder”, in black emphasized zig zag line is well visible in the photo, though partly destroyed by a modern zig zag road for heavy machinery. The green bottom is covered by trees and fields, cultivated by the village Saga. Deutsch: „Der Weg die Leiter“ (Griechisch: ι οδός της Κλίμακος), ist der wichtigste Weg, der die antiken Städte Mantineia und Tegea (heute zugehörig zur modernen Stadt Tripoli, Griechenland) mit Athen und der Region Argolis verbindet. Von der Stadt Argos kommend, klettert der Weg auf die Bergkette „Artemisio“ und erreicht am Kamm einen tief in den Fels gehauenen Pass „Portitsa“ (eine Kerbe im Bergkamm bis 5m breit und bis 6m tief eingeschnitten). Pausanias (110-180 AD) beschreibt die „Leiter“ in seiner überlieferten Schrift “Beschreibung Griechenlands”, und schreibt:. „…dieser Abstieg besaß einst künstlich gemachte Stufen“ (Buch 8.6.4). Die „Leiter“ der Antike ist im Foto als schwarze Zick-Zack-Linie verdeutlicht, wenngleich teilweise durch einen modernen, breiten Zick-Zack-Weg zerstört. Der grüne Talboden wird von Bäumen und Äckern bedeckt, die vom nahen Dorf Saga bewirtschaftet werden. |
