English: Peden's Stone Marked on the OS map and named after the Rev Alexander Peden (1626-86), a church minister who held field meetings over the hills of Southern Scotland in the times of the Covenanters. It was easy to imagine Peden standing behind this stone, or perhaps on the ledge of the stone, and preaching to the gathering below who would have been well hidden in a dip on the hillside. |
