Description "Grindstones", illustration from "A Peep at Washoe" by J. Ross Browne, in Harper's Monthly Magazine, December 1860. En route from California to the Washoe Valley (now Nevada, then the Utah Territory), somewhere between Placerville and Strawberry Flat, Browne encounters a man headed the other way, intending to transport grindstones, which are in short supply in the Washoe Valley.
