Italiano: L'immagine mostra le squame che compongono la pelle dei serpenti (Serpentes o Ophidia). Nello specifico si tratta dello strato superficiale del tegumento perso durante la muta sotto forma di membrana continua (esuvia o spoglia). L'immagine è stata presa al microscopio a scansione elettronica (SEM).
English: The image shows the scales that make up the skin of snakes (Serpentes or Ophidia). Specifically, it is the superficial layer of the integument lost during molting in the form of a continuous membrane (exuvia). The image was taken under a scanning electron microscope (SEM).
