English: St. Michael and All Angels parish church, Penkridge, Staffordshire: incised slab on recessed table tomb of Richard Littleton (died 1518) and his wife Alice Wynnesbury (died 1529) in the south wall of the nave. Between their portraits is their marital coat of arms, blazoned Per pale, dexter: Argent three piles Sable, on a canton Argent twelve ___ Sable, three rows of four (for Littleton of Penkridge); sinister: ___ a hunting horn strung ___ between the antlers of a bucks head cabossed Proper (for Wynnesbury). Note: Usually Littleton of Penkridge is blazoned, Or three piles Sable meeting in point, on a canton Argent .....
Query: Littleton arms and Wynnesbury as blazoned above not listed in Burke's General Armory, 1884. The arms appear to be Basset of Drayton: Or, three piles conjoined in base gules a canton ermine |
