Summary edit

Description
English: A replica of the world's first railway locomotive, Richard Trevithick's 0-4-0 Penydarren from 1804. The replica differs from the original only in using flanged wheels to enable it to run on modern flangeless track.

Unfortunately at some time in the early afternoon of Tuesday 1 June 2004 the replica had an accident. Although I didn't see it happen, it appears that it broke an axle and a wheel fell off, which you can see lying on the ground in front of the loco.

This photo is of the recovery operation, where they used a large crane to lift the loco back onto the rails and jack it up on several large pieces of wood.

This photo was taken at the Rail200 railfest at the National Railway Museum, York - an event named after the bicentenary of this locomotive.
