A feral pigeon with the barred pattern of its wild coastal ancestors, but pigmented with reddish pheomelanin rather than the more common greyish eumelanin.

Summary edit

Description
English: A feral rock dove (pigeon) in Melbourne, Australia. The reddish-brown feathers of this bird are coloured this way due to the pigment pheomelanin. The pattern of this bird, meanwhile, is the barred pattern seen in their wild ancestors and in many feral pigeons. This is likely due to a mutation in the X chromosome, which causes areas that would normally be grey to be white or pale grey, and areas that would normally be black or dark gray to be reddish-brown.
