English: Piano, square, forty-three naturals, thirty ebony sharps, keys - left to right, fifty-six, fifty-seven, fifty-eight and seventy-three stuck down, decorated nameboard - "inscribed", either side of inscription two fret work vents with green fabric behind, lower case moulding above drawers - band of brass inlays of fleur delis on inverted plume, middle drawer has attached handle each side, inlay border. Left hand drawer and right hand drawer has brass central handle, border-stringing inlay , one structures above legs either side of drawers, inlay square panel with inlay diagonal cross (acorn leafs and acorns possibly). Lid- front board is not closing completely, top of case divides into three sections, attached to lifting front board, three hinges - two top lid sections attached to main section of lid with seven hinges. Main section is then attached to the spine with two hinges. Entire lid section is decorated along outer edges with inlay stringing, diagonal cross pattern. Sound board and cover- green coloured with gold decoration. Tuning plank- right hand side beyond sound bridge, sound bridge has major damage with some remedial repairs. Music stand intact. 1 forte piano Clementi and Co., London, England, circa 1815-1825 mahogany, brass, paint, 375 x 1700 x 610 mm labelled ‘Sold by - T, COOKE and CO - Dublin - New Patent - CLEMENTI and CO. - London’ stamped ‘8724’ 1998.60.170 Castle 263 (presented Harcourt 1965) The family of the late Mr. C J S Harcourt, Wellington, presented this forte piano to the collection around 1965. It was placed in the front hallway of 27 Colombo Street and was one of the first instruments to be seen on entering the house.
