MCMXXV (1925) b) winter scene with boat, horses and mill near river; inscription in black oil (brush point) monogram with S - RAS - A with V Polli below

Notes Souvenir painting, Italy, WW2 Acquired by 43513 Driver Alan B Armstrong, 2NZEF Tractor-driver Alan Balfour Armstrong was 24 years old when he enlisted for service on 16.4.1941. At the time his mother, Mrs Phyllis Armstrong lived at 248 Mt Albert Rd Auckland. Alan Armstrong served with the 6th RMT in North Africa and in Italy. As at 5.6.1945 he was with HQ NZ Maadi Camp, Comp. Coy NZASC. In addition to his service medals Armstrong received the 1939-45 Star, the Africa Star with 8th Army clasp and the Italy Star. His paybooks cover the (period 29.4.1941 to 17.1.1946. Note- the inscription on the painting of Jesus in front of classical buildings flanked by three angels; inscription stencilled in brown bottom left- ROMA - ANNO SANCTO. MCMXXV refers to the Vatican Jubilee year 1925
