Original Image Name: Piciwiki_israel_68996_DSC_4801.JPG Notes: עכו היא אחת מערי הנמל העתיקות בעולם ודברי ימיה המתועדים מתחילים בתקופת הברונזה הקדומה. במשך שנים רבות הייתה עיר מפתח לכיבוש ארץ ישראל שכן מיקומה על רצועת החוף הרחבה אפשר גישה נוחה דרך הגליל אל פנים הארץ. היא עברה מיד ליד פעמים רבות. עכו הגיעה לשיאה כאשר שימשה כבירת ממלכת ירושלים במאה ה-13 וכבירתו של אחמד אל-ג39זאר בסוף המאה ה-18. מאז המאה ה-19 פחתה חשיבותה של העיר ביחס לחיפה שהייתה לעיר הנמל הראשית של צפון הארץ.בשנת 2001 הוכרזה עכו העתיקה כאתר מורשת עולמית על ידי אונסקquotוויקיפדיה
