Original Image Name: Piciwiki_israel_87685_20220405_115938jpg Notes: תחילתה גדילת הכיכר וחשיבותה של הכיכר ששימשה כמרכז המסחרי בלב ליבו של הרובע החסידי היהודי החל מהמאה השמונה עשר בעת עליית גל החסידים מגרמניה ואירופה בהצטרפם למגורשים יהודיים שהגיעו לעיר לאחר גרוש ספרד במאה החמש עשר הכיכר נבנתה במרכז השכונה האשכנזית בצפת אחרי עליית החסידים בשנת 1777 במקורה שימשה הכיכר את תושבי העיר ככיכר הפחמים ובה סחרו הערבים בפחם ואף כונתה קוילען פלאץ ביידיש פחםבהמשך התרחב הרובע היהודי עקב מצוקת בנייה והרס בתים ברעידות האדמה
