English: Pillow Lava SSSI Chipley Quarry closeup / cross section This is a cross section of a pillow lava. To the layman this globule or pillow of molten lava, which has settled here, is full of tiny holes once holding gases as the lava was extruded into the sea. The outer edge of this 'pillow' appears very much more solid than the centre section which has many larger holes. |
